Hertfordshire Therapeutic Thinking is the agreed approach commissioned by Hertfordshire Schools to provide a consistent approach to Behaviour Support.
It is a two-stage process. All our staff are trained to the Step On level. This focuses on ways to provide positive behaviour support with the emphasis on diversion and de-escalation techniques. It also teaches staff some safe and natural holds to enable them to move children out of difficult or dangerous situations to a place of safety.
All classroom-based staff are trained to Step Up level. This teaches staff safe ways to use physical intervention where a more robust approach is needed to prevent a child harming themselves or others.
Lakeside has four therapeutic thinking trainers who ensure that all staff training is updated regularly and who are there to give advice and help. Together with our autism specialists they form the Behaviour Support team.
