Behaviour Support

Herts Steps has  been adopted as the local authority approach to behaviour management.

It is a two stage process of Step On and Step Up. All our staff are trained to the Step On level. This focuses on ways of positive behaviour management with the emphasis on diversion and de-escalation techniques. It also teaches staff some safe and natural holds to enable them to move children out of difficult or dangerous situations to a place of safety.

All classroom based staff are trained to Step Up level. This again emphasises the behaviour management techniques but also teaches staff safe ways to use physical intervention where a more robust approach is needed to prevent a child harming himself or others.

Lakeside  has four Steps trainers who ensure that all staff training is updated regularly and who are there to give advice and help. Together with our autism specialists they form the Behaviour Support team.
